Green Hotels in the Green Mountain State is part of a larger public-private partnership program, the Vermont Business Environmental Partnership. Properties can participate in the program on two levels:
* as an Environmental Partner
* as a Green Hotel in the Green Mountain State
To be designated an Environmental Partner, a property must adopt a set of core environmental standards using new and existing initiatives. Once Environmental Partner status is attained, those wishing even greater recognition can strive to have their properties designated as a Green Hotel in the Green Mountain State.
Green Hotel designation reflects a commitment to pollution prevention and exemplary environmental stewardship. Each property seeking to achieve designation as a Green Hotel commits to meeting additional standards, by creating an environmental management plan.
Start the process by taking advantage of the free on-site environmental opportunities assessment provided by Vermont Business Environmental Partnership staff (which fulfills standard #3), by contacting pcrawford@vtsbdc.org or by calling 802-728-1423. They will also help you fill out the achievement form and provide recommendations for meeting the standards, and can assist you in developing a simple Environmental Management Plan needed for the higher level recognition of Green Hotel designation
